I met Maria Cristina yesterday for the first time. She is here from Mexico to have her body casted at Ripley’s Art Department. It is the first step in the process to create a life-size replica of her. Every detail, in her body, every tattoo, every piercing … a journey into the life and the story of the most wildly modified and tattooed woman in the world!
So, come along and share the journey and get a glimpse into one of the most unique, odd, and amazing woman that has visited our offices. A true Believe It or Not!
We begin with a few candid shots to get things rolling and to break the ice.
Who Knew?!
You probably would never guess by just looking at her that she could anything more that a “freak”. Well, come to find out … she is much more than what meets the eye. In spite of her extreme and unbelievable appearance, Marijose (short for Maria Jose), has been married for eight years , is a dedicated mother of four, a businesswoman who runs a tattoo/clothing/jewelry shop, an accomplished painter, and a passionate advocate for battered women.

Her name is Maria Jose Cristena. Cristena is the last name but she goes by Mary Jose Cristena too.

If you’re going to play with your appearance, have fun with it! This is actually kinda cool after seeing so many people wearing traditional clothes and being really touchy about every tiny little thing. The whole barbie doll or Marilyn Monroe appearance has been done to death, and it’s honestly getting quite annoying. This woman rocks!
this is her way of expressing herself. Don’t hate. just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean someone else wont. i think it looks cool. if that makes me crazy then so be it. even if she did this to make her abuser leave her alone, it seems to be working. if i could do this i would.

People fear what they don.t understand, her shell may look different, but underneath she still has red blood, a heart and feelings and whatever she looks like she’s still a human being. I think she looks fantastic and good on her. She isn.t hurting anybody, and don.t see any of the Detractors Getting Immortalised By ripley’s.
