Believe It or Not!
Kabang, the Hero Dog

Kabang, the Hero Dog

Savior Dog

Kabang has got to be the most UNBELIEVABLE dog Ripley’s has ever encountered.  She is a hero, savior, protector, survivor, and mother.

Last December, Kabang heroically saved the lives of two little girls.  Dina Bunggal, 9, and cousin Princess Diansing, 3, were crossing a busy street in Zamboanga City, Philippines when the family dog saw a motorcycle barreling down on the girls.

Kabang leaped in front of a motorcycle that was about to hit them and saved the girls. The horrific injury that resulted from her heroic act is heart wrenching to look at.

As Kabang knocked the motorist off the bike, her upper snout got caught in the wheel.  The bike flipped over, and took Kabang’s snout with it. Miraculously, Kabang survived the accident.

Resilience

Despite being in excruciating pain, both Kabang and her family did not give up hope.  The local authorities tried take Kabang to be euthanized, but the family wouldn’t allow it.  Instead, they embarked a campaign to help their family hero.  After all, Kabang has her own family to look after now… in April, she gave birth to a litter of puppies.

But there’s help!

Kabang’s family was able to raise over $20,000 and last week the german shepard mix was flown to UC Davis in California for reconstructive surgery. “We are pleased with what we discovered,” Frank Verstraete said. “We are confident we can improve her condition going forward.”

UPDATE—How can I help?

Kabang has had a few setbacks since arriving at UC Davis.  It was discovered she has tumor which needs to be treated before she can undergo reconstructive surgery. However, the doctors still expect Kabang can make a full recovery…with your help! Kabang still needs all the love, support, and donations she can get.
