Here’s the prologue for Book 4: Secrets of the Deep!
Prologue
This diving group had been really lucky. Not only had they managed to see a swordfish and a turtle, but a group of dolphins had played alongside them for almost five minutes.
As he led his group of happy tourists home, Minas noticed a large shape appear, casting a cool, gray shadow over the otherwise crystal blue water. Minas had been a diving instructor long enough to know exactly what that particular shadow was—a very large shark.
Minas signaled that his group should follow him, hoping to move the inexperienced divers to safety before they noticed anything was wrong. But it was already too late. One by one they all saw the enormous, angry silver shape headed toward them.
Trying his best to stay calm, Minas saw a narrow fissure in one of the rocks and guided the group inside. Outside the shark prowled, but was too big to follow his prey in. Their hideaway led into a series of tunnels, which Minas thought could be another way out for his group. He led them as quickly and efficiently as he could through the network of darkness, until suddenly the tunnel gave way to a huge cavern.
Swimming into this enormous chamber, Minas’s diver’s light picked out shapes and textures in the gloom that took on an eerie green glow as the shimmering yellow beam hit them. He swam farther into the cave, only to quickly jump back. A gnarled hand seemed to stretch up from the ocean floor, as if reaching for him to try to drag him down. Minas realized that the hand was not moving after all, but then saw it was not the only one. Ghostly limbs jutted out at strange angles from all over the seabed. Minas signaled for his dive group to stay where they were, this was no place for tourists. It seemed that they had stumbled on some sort of underwater graveyard, and looking at the way those bodies were reaching for help, it seemed to Minas that they were not resting peacefully.
