Submersible Convertible

The latest book in our Curioddities series is out this week. Here’s a preview of the book, Simply Shocking.

In March 2008, a Swiss auto company unveiled a convertible car that operates totally underwater as well as on the highway. Inspired by James Bond’s car in the movie The Spy Who Loved Me, the Rinspeed sQuba is an ordinary car that, at the touch of a button, can transform itself into an amphibious vehicle capable of diving to a depth of around 33 ft (10 m).

The sQuba can go to depths of 33 feet. That doesn’t sound deep, but it’s a lot of pressure, nearly 30 pounds per square inch. It’s enough to start squeezing the air from your lungs.

This comes right from Simply Shocking, page 263!
