Cave of Wonders

During a yearly Thaipusam Festival of the god Shiva (or Murugan) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, devotees celebrate inside the Batu Caves that contain ornate shrines.

Along with piercing their bodies with metal skewers, as an offering, worshippers carry pots of milk on their heads a few kilometers, up a steep, brightly painted flight of 272 steps and into the cave system.

Orange Snow

Orange snow fell in parts of eastern Europe in March 2018 after snow from Siberia collided with dust-filled wind from Africa’s Sahara Desert. The strange phenomenon prompted people like Alina Smurygina of Moscow, Russia, to upload their photos to social media to share the Martian-like landscape.

Frog Butt

When threatened, the Cuyaba dwarf frog (Physalaemus nattereri) from South America inflates its butt to scare off predators with its false eyes! The defensive little frog lifts its rear up for maximum effect, hoping that the spots on its body look like the large eyes of a snake. If the attacker decides to strike anyway, there are toxic glands beneath the fake eyes, with each frog containing enough poison to kill 150 mice.

Spin Crust

Believe It or Not! every year participants from all over the globe compete for the title of World Pizza Champion at one of two competitions in Italy and in Las Vegas, Nevada. The elaborate two- to three-minute routines set to music resemble rhythm gymnastics (but with pizza dough, of course).
