So, what’s for dinner tonight?
Of all the people in the world, the crew at Ripley’s, is quite open to the unusual, and is the least perplexed by what other people choose to do … or in this case eat.
If you are what you eat, you may be shocked by what people consume because of their bizarre eating habits and disorders. Check out the list!
People with xilophagia like to eat things like paper, pencils, tree bark or other items made of wood.
In 2007 an 18 year old girl suffering from trichophagia was found with a 10-pound hairball in her stomach. Cats around the world were flabbergasted.
Very dangerous for obvious reasons. Sharp glass + soft tissue = pain and injury! Please DO NOT TRY this at home (or anywhere)
Consuming Urine (Pee)
Believe it or not, consuming one’s own pee (or the pee of a healthy person) is relatively low in risk, albeit utterly disgusting.
Cooked, baked, and processed dirt and clay are sold in health food stores and rural flea markets. Some pregnant women eat chalk to eliminate nausea and to get extra calcium.
Eating Human Flesh
It is also commonly known as cannibalism. As of 2006, the Korowai were one of very few tribes still believed to eat human flesh as a cultural practice.
Also called auto-cannibalism, or self-cannibalism. On January 13, 2007, Marco Evaristti, a Danish artist, served pasta that was topped with a meatball made with his own fat. I find myself without both words or an appetite.
Eating Feces (Poop)
This is very rare, and only seen on some cases of extreme mental disorders. Centuries ago, however, physicians used to taste their patients’ feces, to better judge their state and condition. True, but why? Really.
