Kittens Born Without Eyelids

Dora and her brother Felix were found wandering the roadside alone in the Blue Mountains of Australia.

Eventually, the cute kittens were picked up by a kind-hearted couple, but they noticed something unusual about the kittens’ eyes.

After seeking help from the local RSPCA shelter, veterinarians confirmed that both cats had been born without eyelids.

Without eyelids to protect and moisten their eyes, vets predicted the twins would go blind within a year.

Vets were able to save the kitten’s eyesight by using tissue from their lips to create new eyelids. The entire process took over 8 hours, but now both kittens are doing just fine.

Patrick Jones of Portraits of an Animal Shelter managed to spend some time with Dora and Felix.

“They’re just the best cats. They’re affectionate, playful and adventurous.” – Patrick Jones

They were awaiting adoption at the RSPCA Blue Mountains Shelter, but as of a few weeks ago, both cats found their forever homes!
