Masters of the Extraordinary are Invited to Submit Videos for a Chance to Win a Summer Gig as a Sideshow Performer

For those who are super flexible, able to perform odd feats of strength or never cease to amaze, shock-and-awe with out-of-the-ordinary talents…Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square wants to see it all!  This spring, the Times Square attraction is inviting people to showcase their “unbelievable” abilities for the chance to win a summer gig as a sideshow performer at Ripley’s Times Square Odditorium or the choice of $1,000 cash prize.

Contestants, 18 years or older, are encouraged to submit a video, two minute or less displaying an incredible – and safe – talent, anything from playing guitar with your toes to high-pitch singing that can break glass, along with a description of what makes it “unbelievable” to Ripley’s New York Facebook page at  Videos will be accepted now through Friday, March 25, 2011 at 12:00pm EST and will be viewable by the public, who will be able to vote for their favorite talent during the entry period.

Public voting will determine the top five finalists who will be invited to perform their talent live at Ripley’s Times Square Odditorium in April in front of an esteemed panel of judges including Michael Hirsch, General Manager of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square; Albert Cadabra of Ripley’s Sideshow Wonders; Edward Meyer, VP Exhibits and Archives of Ripley Entertainment Inc. and Buck Wolf, Senior Correspondent of AOL Weird News.  One grand prize winner will be named and receive the choice of a summer (July-August) job as a Sideshow Performer at Ripley’s Times Square or the choice of $1,000 cash prize.

“For years we’ve amazed guests of our Times Square attraction with the unbelievable and astonishing talents of our sideshow performers,” says General Manager Michael Hirsch, “We know that there are a lot of incredibly talented people out there and we want to celebrate them…where else but Ripley’s could folding yourself into a pretzel win you a prize?!”

Since Robert Ripley began scouting the globe for extreme oddities, Ripley’s has discovered some incredibly, unbelievably talented people.  *People who can hammer six-inch spikes into their noses, lift 100 pounds with their earlobes, fold themselves into a small box, and hang weights from their lower eyelids using fish hooks and chains.
