Artist Sofia de la Rocha needed to make a dress out of recycled materials
A class assignment at the Rhode Island School of Design asked students to come up with fashion from ignored but materials. She chose to use sawdust!
Ripley’s loved it! We bought it to hopefully have on display one day. And her sawdust dress was even featured in a cartoon earlier this year in April.
I chose saw dust because of its lack of substance. I wanted to play with the idea of creating something from virtually nothing and thought sawdust met that criteria. This dress is made from a mixture of sawdust, white glue, and resin
Sofia de la Roche didn’t stop there, she went on to create a dress made out of computer wires!
