Most Popular Man

Beating out President Roosevelt, champion boxer Jack Dempsey, Hollywood actor James Cagney, and auto tycoon Henry Ford (to name just a few) in 1936, Robert Ripley was deemed the most popular man in America. He won the majority of votes in a poll taken by the Boys Club of New York, which asked children whom they wanted to be when they grew up.
