In Guizhou Province, the Beipan River winds through a gorge so deep that locals call it the "Earth's Crevice." Crossing it once meant a winding two-hour drive down one side of the canyon and back up the other. Now drivers do it in about two minutes.
A Long Way Down
The bridge's deck sits about 2,050 feet (625 m) above the river. Stack two Eiffel Towers on top of each other, and you'd still fall short.
The main span stretches 4,660 feet (1,420 m) across open air, and the full bridge measures about 9,480 feet (2,890 m) from end to end. That's nearly 1.8 miles of roadway suspended over the canyon.
Built in Under Four Years
Construction started in January 2022, and the bridge opened to traffic on September 28, 2025. Engineers worked hundreds of feet above the gorge to piece together a structure that now carries four lanes of traffic through the clouds.
The bridge isn't only for getting somewhere. It's also a sightseeing stop, with a café, a geology museum, and bungee jumping for anyone who wants a closer look at the drop.
