Great White Shark Cage Diving Accident

During a cage diving expedition off the coast of Isla Guadalupe, Mexico, a great white shark managed to burst through the bars of one of the cages.

Diver Chan Ming was inside the cage when the shark burst into his tiny refuge. The breach seems to have been an accident, the shark lunged for a tuna, and then got stuck. Sharks are known to close their eyes when they lunge for food.

Sharks are actually incapable of swimming backward, so once inside the cage, the shark had nowhere to go. Dive handlers managed to quickly open the top of the cage, and the great white flopped itself out.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

“BIONs” – short for Believe It or Not – is the word we use at Ripley’s to refer to anything that is unbelievable and worthy to become part of Ripley’s lore and collection.
