This video by Laurin Döpfner called Verschleif they use a belt sander to peer into objects by slicing the objects half of a millimeter at a time! That’s 1/20th of a centimeter or 0.0039 inches at a time.
To make the video they sanded apart wood, a camera, and at the end even a skull which I think is the most interesting, but you’ll have to watch the video to see that!
