Interesting thing about coal, if it takes a million years to make why does Carbon Dating work on it? Current technology says carbon dating can be done on anything living up to 75 THOUSAND years old. That’s up from the 50 thousand estimate when I was young. If the living matter that formed coal died earlier than that it shouldn’t be possible to date but there is no form of carbon on earth that can’t be dated, that even includes carbon inclusions in diamond. One of those things that makes you wonder isn’t it.
Wish I could remember where I saw it but a few months ago I read an article about a 100 year old wooden bridge (I think it was in Germany) being replaced by a modern steel structure. The curious thing is they found the post had partially transformed to coal. If true, and I didn’t check anywhere to see if it was or not, that might be a subject for a future . . . Ripley’s Believe it or Not!
