Inciting the masses after Charles Lindbergh's 1927 flight, Ripley penned that the aviator was the 67th man to make a nonstop flight over the Atlantic Ocean - purposely omitting the word "solo"! 2. On November 3, 1929, Ripley published "America has no national anthem," asserting "The Star-Spangled Banner" was nothing more than an unofficial hymn sung to an old English drinking song. It took Congress 16 months to pass a one-sentence bill for President Herbert Hoover to sign into law America's Anthem - all thanks to Rip! 3.
